Resolution: standard / high Figure 6.
Effect of propofol-docosahexaenoic acid (propofol-DHA) and propofol-eicosapentaenoic
acid (propofol-EPA) conjugates on cell adhesion. MDA-MB-231 cells (104) were incubated in vitronectin-coated plates in the presence of 25 μM DHA (D), 25
μM EPA (E), 25 μM propofol (P), 25 μM each of D+P, 25 μM each of E+P, and 25 μM propofol-DHA
(D-P) or 25 μM propofol-EPA (E-P) for 45 min. The control cells were treated with
equal amounts of ethanol. Cells adhering to the plates were quantified by staining
and measurement of the absorbance in a spectrophotometer as described in the text.
Results are means ± SEM for four experiments and are presented as the percentages
of adhered cells in comparison with the controls. The results were analyzed by analysis
of variance and Dunnett's multiple comparison test to control the Type I experimental
wise error. Significant differences from the control (P < 0.05) are indicated with an asterisk.
